Solar Pasture Wells

Solar power and water pumping are a natural fit. Generally, water is needed most when the sun shines the brightest. Solar modules generate maximum power in full sun conditions when we typically need larger quantities of water. Because of this ""sun-synchronous"" matching, solar is an economical choice over windmills and engine-driven generators for most locations where we do not have utility power. We have been installing solar water pumping systems since 1991 and have installed over 300 systems.

Ranchers provide the trough and purchase a direct current pump from us. We install the solar panels and connect them to the pump. The system is leased to the rancher and we provide maintenance. The systems are a great alternative for watering cattle when there are no powerlines nearby.

Contact us for more information on solar water pumping.

Testing solar pasture well pump

Member Services Technician Allen Kersten tests the pumping power of a solar powered pasture well before finishing the installation.

Solar Panel Controls

Controls for the direct current pump can be seen on the back of the solar panels.

Solar Pasture Well Trough

Ranchers who lease solar systems for their pasture wells provide the trough for the water and they have to purchase a direct current pump. The system will be sized according to how many cattle need to be watered.

Back View of Trough

Anopther view of the trough shows how large it is in relation to a Verendrye pickup. This is just one example of how ranchers have designed their trough system.
