Verendrye Electric is a distribution cooperative that purchases wholesale power from Central Power Electric Cooperative of Minot.
Central Power doesn't generate its own power; it serves as an intermediary to Verendrye and five other cooperatives.
Central Power buys about 90% of its electricity from Basin Electric and 10% from the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA). Electricity from WAPA is hydropower from the Garrison Dam.
The Electricity from Basin Electric comes from a mix of various fuel sources as shown in the graph below. The three graphs demonstrate how the energy mix has changed over the years.
